The North American Conference on British Studies (NACBS) is a scholarly society dedicated to all aspects of the study of British civilization. The NACBS sponsors a scholarly journal, the Journal of British Studies, online publications, and an annual conference, as well as several academic prizes, graduate fellowships, and undergraduate essay contests. While the largest single group of its members teach British history in colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, the NACBS has significant representation among specialists in literature, art history, politics, law, sociology, and economics. Its membership also includes many teachers at universities in countries outside North America, secondary school teachers, and independent scholars.
The Journal of British Studies (JBS) has established itself as the critical resource for scholars of British culture from the Middle Ages through the present. Drawing on both established and emerging approaches, JBS presents scholarly articles and book reviews from renowned international authors.
The NACBS and its affiliate, the Pacific Coast Conference on British Studies (PCCBS), seek participation by scholars in all areas of British Studies for the 2019 meeting. We will meet in Vancouver, Canada, from November 14-17, 2019.
We ask your help to sustain activities vital to the well-being of British Studies in North America – our annual conference, our awards and prizes, our well-respected journal, and more. We run a tight ship: we do the majority of our business online, we have no paid staff and no office space, and we are reliant on the good will of our members. The NACBS is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
